HVAC Rebates Ontario 2026
How They Actually Work

📋

What this page is: An honest, plain-language explanation of how Ontario HVAC rebate programs work — what homeowners must do themselves, what the energy advisor does, and where Hawana fits in. We do not apply for rebates on your behalf. We install qualifying equipment and provide the documentation you need. The rebate application is between you and the program.

🌿 Canada Greener Homes: up to $5,000
⛽ Enbridge Rebate Plus: up to $1,500
🔥 Oil-to-HP Program: up to $10,000

Ontario homeowners who upgrade to qualifying heat pumps, high-efficiency furnaces, or hybrid water heaters can access thousands of dollars in government and utility rebates — but the process has specific steps and a strict order. Most people get this wrong and lose eligibility. This guide explains it correctly.

🚨 Read This Before You Buy Anything

The most common and most costly mistake London Ontario homeowners make with HVAC rebates: installing the equipment first, then trying to apply for the rebate.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant requires a pre-installation EnerGuide audit by a registered energy advisor before any equipment is purchased or installed. If you buy and install first, you are permanently ineligible for this rebate on that upgrade — no exceptions.

The correct order: Contact an energy advisor → complete the pre-audit → THEN get quotes and install the qualifying equipment → THEN get the post-audit → THEN apply for the rebate. Hawana can confirm whether equipment qualifies at the quote stage, but we cannot start the audit process — that is the energy advisor's role.

Step-by-Step

The Correct Process — Canada Greener Homes Grant

This is the step-by-step process for the largest and most common rebate program. Follow it in order. Skipping steps — especially the pre-audit — means losing eligibility permanently.

Register on the NRCan Canada Greener Homes portal

Visit greathomes.canada.ca ↗ and create an account. Register for the program before doing anything else. This timestamps your participation start date.

Book a registered energy advisor for your pre-installation audit

Find a registered energy advisor through the NRCan directory at nrcan.gc.ca. Book a pre-installation EnerGuide audit. The advisor visits your home, assesses its current energy performance, and provides a baseline rating. This audit is required before any equipment is purchased or installed.

⚠️ This must happen BEFORE you call Hawana for installation. If you install first, you lose eligibility.

Cost: Energy advisors charge for their audit service — typically $300–$600 for the pre and post audit combined. This is partially offset by the rebate you receive.

Contact Hawana for a quote on qualifying equipment

Once you have your pre-audit completed, call Hawana at (647) 550-4220 for a free in-home quote. We confirm that the recommended equipment appears on the NRCan qualifying products list and meets program efficiency requirements before proceeding.

✅ Hawana confirms equipment eligibility at this stage — we do not install non-qualifying equipment and describe it as eligible.

Hawana installs the qualifying equipment

Hawana's TSSA certified technicians complete the installation. We provide you with all required documentation: installation invoice with model numbers and serial numbers, TSSA permit copies, equipment energy ratings, and proof of TSSA certification. Keep all of these — the rebate application requires them.

Book your post-installation energy audit

Contact your registered energy advisor to book the post-installation EnerGuide audit. The advisor revisits your home, confirms the qualifying upgrade was completed, and updates your home's energy rating. They submit the documentation to NRCan on your behalf.

Receive your rebate payment

NRCan processes your application based on the pre and post audit results. The rebate amount is calculated based on the energy improvement achieved. Payment is issued directly to you — typically within 6 to 12 weeks of complete application submission.

✅ Rebate goes directly to you, not to Hawana. It's your money from the government program.
Who Does What

Your Role vs. Hawana's Role — Clearly Explained

Many homeowners assume the HVAC contractor handles the rebate. That's not how it works. Here's who does what.

👤 What You Do

  • Register on the government/program portal
  • Book and pay for the pre-installation energy audit
  • Choose qualifying equipment based on Hawana's recommendation
  • Book the post-installation audit after Hawana completes the install
  • Submit the rebate application with all documentation
  • Receive the rebate payment directly from the program

🔧 What Hawana Does

  • Confirms which equipment qualifies for which programs
  • Installs the qualifying equipment to TSSA and manufacturer standards
  • Provides full installation documentation (invoice, model/serial, permits, efficiency ratings)
  • Explains the program requirements clearly at time of quote
  • Answers questions about which upgrades maximize rebate eligibility
⚠️ Be cautious of any HVAC company that says "we handle the rebates for you" and then charges you a premium for this service. Rebate applications are straightforward — you register, you book the energy advisor, you submit your documentation. Any company claiming to "process" the rebate on your behalf and charging extra for this is not providing a real service.

Abdullah Ghzail, TSSA certified gas technician and founder of Hawana HVAC Solutions, explaining HVAC rebate programs to London Ontario homeowners

A Note From Abdullah — Why Honesty Matters Here

I wrote this guide because too many London Ontario homeowners contact me after they've already installed equipment without getting the pre-audit — and they've lost thousands of dollars in rebate eligibility as a result. Some were told by other companies that "the rebate would be handled" and it wasn't. Rebate programs are government programs with strict rules. Hawana's job is to install qualifying equipment correctly, provide the documentation you need, and explain the process honestly. The energy advisor and the government program handle everything else. That's the truth, and I'd rather you know it upfront.

FAQ

HVAC Rebate FAQs — Ontario 2026

What HVAC rebates are available in Ontario in 2026?
The three main programs in 2026 are: the Canada Greener Homes Grant (up to $5,000 for qualifying cold-climate heat pumps and other upgrades — requires a registered energy advisor and pre-installation audit), the Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (up to $1,500 for eligible Enbridge Gas customers installing heat pumps, high-efficiency furnaces, or smart thermostats), and the Canada Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (up to $10,000 for homes converting from oil heat to a qualifying heat pump). Program availability and amounts change — always verify at official program websites before proceeding.
Do I need an energy advisor before installing a heat pump to get the Ontario rebate?
For the Canada Greener Homes Grant — yes, absolutely. A pre-installation EnerGuide audit by a registered energy advisor is required before any equipment is purchased or installed. Installing first makes you permanently ineligible for this rebate on that upgrade. For the Enbridge rebate, a pre-audit is not always required — check current Enbridge requirements at enbridgegas.com. Find a registered energy advisor through NRCan's directory ↗.
Does Hawana HVAC apply for rebates on my behalf?
No. Hawana installs qualifying equipment and provides all required documentation — installation invoices, model and serial numbers, TSSA permits, and equipment efficiency ratings. The rebate application itself is between you and the government or Enbridge program. The energy advisor handles the pre and post audits and documentation submission for the Canada Greener Homes Grant. This is the honest answer — any contractor claiming to "handle your rebate" and charging extra for it is not providing a real additional service.
Can I combine the Canada Greener Homes Grant and the Enbridge rebate?
Yes — for qualifying measures like cold-climate heat pump installation, you can typically claim both programs for the same equipment. The Canada Greener Homes Grant and Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus are separate programs and can be stacked. Combined, they can provide up to $6,500 in rebates on a qualifying heat pump installation in London Ontario. Confirm current stacking rules at each program's official website as policies can change.
How long does it take to receive an HVAC rebate in Ontario?
The Canada Greener Homes Grant typically takes 6 to 12 weeks from complete application submission (after the post-installation audit) to payment. The Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus typically processes in 4 to 8 weeks. Delays occur when documentation is incomplete — keeping all invoices, model numbers, serial numbers, and installation records organized significantly speeds up the process.
Where do I find a registered energy advisor for the Ontario rebate process?
Find a Natural Resources Canada registered energy advisor through the official NRCan directory at nrcan.gc.ca ↗. Search by postal code to find advisors serving London Ontario and surrounding area. Book the pre-installation audit before contacting Hawana or any other HVAC installer. The advisor will walk you through the program requirements specific to your home.
